Ivan Plusch
Ivan Plusch is a painter and installation artist whose flowing, fragmented images explore time, identity and the changing relationship between people and technology.
Born in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, in 1981, he graduated from the Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design in 2009. He co-founded the Nepokorennye open studio in 2007 and undertook residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. His practice connects St. Petersburg with Budapest and Pacsa in Hungary.
Plusch allows paint to run, sag and dissolve, making gravity and duration part of the image. Figures and interiors seem to lose their stability, reflecting his interest in the boundaries between physical existence and the artificial environments of contemporary life. He develops these questions through both paintings and large-scale installations.
In 2013 he received the Innovation Award and was nominated for the Sergey Kuryokhin Prize. His work is held in collections including the State Hermitage Museum, the State Russian Museum and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
