Dmitriy Shorin

Dmitriy Shorin works across painting, drawing and sculpture, creating a distinctive visual world shaped by popular culture and the idea of flight.

Born in Novosibirsk in 1971, Shorin began his training at the art and graphics faculty of Omsk’s Gorky Pedagogical Institute before studying garment design and continuing his education in Leningrad. He works between Moscow and Budapest.

His figurative imagery draws on advertising and cinema, presenting idealised characters with a heightened, almost dreamlike presence. Flight is a recurring motif in his sculptural practice, including the I Believe in Angels series. Four of his sculptures are permanently displayed at Pulkovo International Airport in St. Petersburg.

The State Russian Museum presented a solo exhibition of his work at the Marble Palace in 2008. His work is represented in museum collections including the Russian Museum, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art.
